I’m Rob Hattersley. My career began as a primary school teacher, a role requiring innovation, flexibility, resilience, patience and lots of humour.
Teaching and education
After a two-year stint as schools officer for a leading house builder, I spent two years as deputy headteacher at a busy Hereford primary school. There then followed an exciting role with West Midlands Fire Service, developing educational programmes at the innovative Safeside Centre. I designed content, resources and training and developed marketing, website and social media strategies. I was responsible for a full time team of 5, a part time team of 25, and 100 volunteers.
After a shorter period as director of an educational charity and then regional manager for a social enterprise, I decided to use my communication skills to develop my own web management and graphic design agency. My wide knowledge of different workplaces such as schools, the public sector, business and the third sector means that I can quickly understand the objectives of clients, designing materials to meet their objectives.
A design and communication enthusiast
I’ve developed web design and management skills since 2007 through running websites for various community groups, schools and local businesses in my spare time. I’ve enjoyed graphic design since creating student newsletters on Macs in the 1990s. As well as the design elements, I’m keen to present textual information clearly and succinctly.
As an educator, I’m especially keen to provide the ongoing coaching and support in developing and managing sites which isn’t always offered by larger agencies. Sometimes sole traders and small businesses are embarrassed to ask, but it’s the core of what I do.
